My cycling adventure started on June 3, 2017. On that date, my brother and his daughter started the Trans Am Bike Race. He loaned me a bike and I agreed to ride it every day while they were on course. The 2 km on day one was brutal but with every day my distance increased, I got stronger and to my delight I started to lose weight.
This marked the beginning of an active decision to exercise regularly, improve my dietary choices and eating habits, and a commitment to healthy living. I dropped from 123 kg (270 lb) and a waist of 112 cm (45 in) to 89 kg (196 lb) and a waist of 92 cm (36 in). I feel great.
A friend watching my progress suggested I might join the Race Denmark Bike Race. Of the 20 registered riders, 16 started and 13 days, 10 hours and 8 minutes later, I was the last competitor to cross the finish line and ended up in 7th. place.
The Race Around the Netherlands has a shorter time line and I plan to be among the finishers. It will be a challenge but one I look forward to with excitement and enthusiasm.
